About this scholarship

Erasmus+ top-up for students on a social grant (Iscte)

For a study or work placement abroad lasting from 2 to 12 months, you will receive a supplement of extra 250 EUR per month in addition to your regular Erasmus+ grant. For a short-term stay, you will instead receive a one-off payment: 100 EUR for 5 to 14 days or 150 EUR for 15 to 30 days. This is not a standalone grant, but rather a supplementary benefit for students who are already receiving social security benefits. It is administered by the Social Services Office (SAS) of Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa in collaboration with its International Office (SRI).

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme at Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.
  • Financial need: You are already receiving the Iscte social grant (Bolsa de Ação Social), which is awarded on the basis of your family’s income.
  • Going abroad: You are taking part in an approved Erasmus+ study or work placement programme and have a signed learning agreement (the study plan agreed between you, Iscte and the host institution).
  • Where you go: You can go to any country except your country of nationality or your official country of residence.
  • Study phase: Bachelor's students can go from their 2nd year onward. Master's and doctoral students can go from the 2nd semester of their 1st year. Exceptions are possible for short stays.
  • Recent graduates: You can still undertake an internship abroad if you were selected during your final year of study and complete it within 12 months of graduating.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at Iscte.

How to apply

There is no separate application for the top-up. You apply for Erasmus+ itself through the Fénix system. The international office then adds the extra payment automatically once the social services office confirms you hold a social grant and your stay is approved. The Erasmus+ deadlines are set each year and published in the outgoing application calendar.
