General Description

Providing scholarships in classical studies and humanities to students pursuing their master's and doctoral degrees, The Lemmermann Foundation offers students a means of financial support during their studies. The Lemmermann Foundation's Scholarship Award includes a monthly stipend of £750. Applicants should note that the foundation is unable to return any of documents sent during the application process, so applicants should not send any original documents. Applicants will also need to give their consent to the treatment of personal data according to the Italian law no. 196/2003 (regulations for the protection of personal data). Applicants who are residents in Lazio are excluded from the award; however, students with outstanding proposals can be awarded with a una-tantum grant of research of £500. At its own discretion, the Lemmermann Foundation's scientific committee will select their chosen award winners upon the basis of their credentials and potential contributions to the scientific community. All committee's decisions are final.

Requirements

Applicants must choose a topic of research related to Rome and the Roman culture of any period, from the Pre-Roman period to the present day. Applicants must also be enrolled in a recognized university program, have a working knowledge of the Italian language, and provide proof for their need to carry out research in Rome. To apply, applicants must send the following documents: a description of their chosen area of study; two letters of recommendation – one from an advisor/professor and one from a faculty member of the student's dissertation committee or a head of studies – that contain a summary of the student's skills, personal interests, capabilities and conducted research; a curriculum vitae; and a photocopy of the student's passport or birth certificate. Recipients of the scholarship must return the signed contract within 2 months of its reception – after 12 months have passed without receiving this document, the scholarship will be revoked for all legal purposes.
