General Description

The Chemistry scholarship is now available for individuals who are passionate about chemistry and have the potential to be exceptional chemistry teachers. It is run in partnership with the Department for Education and only available for eligible initial teacher training programmes in England. Each of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) scholar will receive a £25,000 (tax free) bursary to train as a teacher in England. The scholarship will also include: membership package for 2 years, and discounted for further 2 years; selection of RSC materials including resources, lab coat and other consumables; national and regional support networks including: Local meetings, Online communities, Events, Mentoring.

Requirements

Candidates must have a chemistry or related (containing at least 50% chemistry) degree or have a conditional teacher training course offer subject to completing a chemistry subject knowledge enhancement course; have a good academic record at university either by: possessing, or will possess, a 1st or a 2(i) or possessing, or will possess, a Masters degree or PhD or have a 2:2 degree classification where there is strong evidence of subject knowledge together with relevant experience; have excellent understanding of the chemistry at school level; have excellent ability to explain chemistry ideas at school level; be interested in, and committed to education/teaching; have the personal attributes that will make them a good classroom teacher and manager; secure their training place on an eligible PGCE or Schools Direct chemistry course in Englandl and be an EU National (and qualify as a home student), be eligible to draw a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company and meet the bursary eligibility criteria set out in the Department for Education, National College for Teaching and Leadership bursary guidance; be going to train in England to be a teacher and have the desire to teach in England once qualified.
