The Dobbin Scholarship is offered through the Ireland Canada University Foundation (ICUF). It is available to both Irish and Canadian students who are starting or are established in research work. The direction of their studies must be relevant to both Canada and Ireland as the scholarship aims to maintain cultural and academic links between both countries. The scholarship is awarded in both Euro and Canadian currency, and is paid solely for the purpose of covering costs for short visits. Only travel costs to a university or research institution in Canada or Ireland are considered. The stay must be between two and four weeks. For Canadian students the award covers CAD 1,300 for travel expenses plus a stipend of CAD 2,000 for a two week stay or CAD 4,000 for four a week stay. For Irish students the award covers €1,000 of travel expenses plus a stipend of €1,600 for a two week stay or €3,200 for a four week stay.
Applications are only considered from permanent residents of Ireland or Canada. Scholars who receive the awards must produce relevant receipts to ICUF to be reimbursed for their expenses. Only students involved in graduate level research that is relevant to Canada and Ireland are considered. It must be clear how the visit will benefit the scholar’s research. New cultural and academic links between Canada and Ireland are welcomed. One-off visits are not funded by the scholarship scheme. Only visits that will occur within one year of the award being made are considered.
