What you get

During your training as a librarian in Galicia, you will receive 1,010 EUR gross per month for up to 13 months. This is a paid, practical placement: you will work in a public library alongside experienced staff and gain an understanding of cataloguing, stock management, lending, interlibrary loans, reader services and the organisation of cultural events. You will also be covered by social security during the placement. At the end, you will receive a certificate detailing the library, the areas of training and the number of hours you have completed. For the period from 2026 to 2027, there are 33 places available in eight libraries across Galicia. The grant is awarded by the Consellería de Cultura, Lingua e Xuventude of the Xunta de Galicia (the regional government).

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a relevant university degree obtained in the academic year 2014/15 or later. These include library and information science, as well as linguistics and literary studies, history, art history, the humanities, cultural studies, cultural management or an official Master’s degree in library science.
• Foreign degrees: A comparable qualification from the European Higher Education Area will also be recognised, provided you have an official Spanish certificate of equivalence.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• Galician: You can provide evidence of your knowledge of the Galician language (by means of a Celga language certificate), unless your certificate was issued by the Xunta.
• No conflicting income: You are not in paid employment and do not receive any other publicly funded support (or are giving this up), and you have no outstanding tax or social security debts.
• Limited prior training: You have not been receiving this scholarship for more than 6 months, nor have you been working as a library intern for more than 6 months.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the Xunta de Galicia’s electronic portal (sede.xunta.gal) using an electronic ID card or a Chave365 login. The application deadline is 9 February 2026, one month after the publication of the call for applications. Places are allocated according to a points-based system, which is primarily based on your degree, your grade point average and additional qualifications such as courses and language skills.

How realistic are your chances?

This post is quite competitive. Applicants must hold a specific degree, provide evidence of proficiency in Galician, and apply for 33 places under a points-based system that gives particular weight to library-related qualifications. Those with a degree in library or information science, who have good grades and can provide evidence of relevant courses and language skills, have good prospects. It is advisable to apply early, as the submission date is the deciding factor in the event of a tie.
