What you get

You will receive a monthly Erasmus+ grant for a work placement with a company or organisation in another European country. The amount depends on the cost of living in your destination country and is approximately 500 EUR per month, with higher rates applying to more expensive countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands or Ireland, and lower rates for countries such as Poland, Romania or Croatia.

An internship lasts between 2 and 12 months. You will also receive a separate flat-rate travel allowance, the amount of which depends on the distance travelled. If you receive a Portuguese government scholarship (DGES), you will also receive an additional 250 EUR per month. The host organisation does not charge any fees, and the placement will count towards your degree: It will be recognised in your Diploma Supplement, an official certificate attached to your degree certificate. The funding comes from the EU’s Erasmus+ programme and is administered by the Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo (IPVC) in Portugal.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at IPVC in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, in a bachelor's (Licenciatura) or master's programme. Recent IPVC graduates can also apply, but you must apply during your final year of study.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Where you go: You will be undertaking your work placement with a company or organisation in another Erasmus+ country – that is, anywhere in the participating European countries apart from Portugal.
• Finding the placement: You’ll usually find your own work placement. IPVC also publishes work placement vacancies, and you can search on EU platforms such as the European Youth Portal and EURES.

How to apply

You must register in advance via the IPVC Mobility Portal during an open registration period. The secretariat and your school coordinator will announce the current deadlines. Funding will be allocated in the order in which confirmed applications are received, until the budget has been exhausted. You should therefore apply as early as possible.
