General Description

The Hans Boeckler foundation is the student support body of the German Trade Union (DGB) and is one of twelve German student assistance foundations for gifted students. Its doctoral scholarship is aimed at supporting German doctoral students, educational residents (Bildungsinlaender) pursuing a PhD and foreign doctoral students. The recipient gets 1,050 Euros per month (further contributions necessary depending on personal financial circumstances). They also receive a research grant of 100 Euros per month.

Requirements

The doctoral scholarship is aimed at German doctoral students, educational residents (Bildungsinlaender) pursuing a PhD and foreign doctoral students in all disciplines - in the context of doctoral study courses, junior research groups and graduate centres as well as individual research at universities. The application may only be made after the doctorate has begun. Applicants must have maintained an above-average academic record throughout their university studies. Additionally, the student is required to have demonstrated prior commitment to sociopolitical causes. This can have taken place within associations, initiatives, youth organisations, parties or at university. Applicants' success will primarily be decided according to their level of engagement with political issues (sociopolitical, politico-cultural or eco-political).
