General Description

The Hans Boeckler foundation is the student support body of the German Trade Union (DGB) and is one of twelve German student assistance foundations for gifted students. Its student scholarship is aimed at supporting German students and educational residents/Bildungsinlaender, who will be supported in accordance with §8 BAföG (German Federal Law on Support in Education). The recipient gets a maximum of 597 Euros per month (calculated according to BAföG). The recipient also gets an additonal 300 Euros book money irrespective of their parents' income.

Eligible to apply are German students and educational residents (Bildungsinlaender) in all disciplines. Students must not have completed a minimum amount of study time before submitting an application. However, students must have at least 4 semesters left. A Master's degree being commenced immediately after graduation from a Bachelor's may be accounted for in this calculation. Applicants must have maintained an above-average academic record throughout their school and university career. Additionally, the student is required to have demonstrated prior commitment to sociopolitical causes. This can have taken place within associations, initiatives, youth organisations, parties or at university. Applicants' success will primarily be decided according to their level of engagement with political issues (sociopolitical, politico-cultural or eco-political).
