About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive up to 390 EUR per month as a grant for a study period abroad, for a maximum of 9 months. If you are taking part in the Erasmus+ programme, the Basque Government will top up the grant you already receive from the Spanish agency SEPIE until your total monthly amount reaches 390 EUR. If your exchange is not part of the Erasmus+ programme, you will receive the full 390 EUR per month from the Basque Government. The funding comes from the Basque Regional Government (Gobierno Vasco / Eusko Jaurlaritza). You may combine this grant with other funding, provided that your studies are not overfunded.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at a university or a higher education institution specialising in the arts in the Basque Country, such as the UPV/EHU, Deusto, Mondragon, TECNUN, IDarte, Musikene or Euneiz.
- Level: You are currently studying for a Bachelor’s degree (Grado), a Master’s degree or a state-recognised degree in the arts. PhD students who completed their degree between 2024 and 2025 are not eligible to apply.
- Where you go: In the 2025–2026 academic year, you are taking part in a recognised international exchange programme abroad, such as the Erasmus+ programme.
- Residence: You have been living in a municipality in the Basque Country since before 1 January 2025.
- Nationality: You are a Spanish national or are lawfully resident in Spain. Non-EU nationals must provide proof of lawful residence. You are not eligible to apply if you are in Spain solely for the purpose of studying.
How to apply
You do not submit the application to the government yourself. You submit your documents to your own university or higher education institution by the internal deadline. This deadline runs from the beginning of December 2025 until a date in January or February, depending on the institution. Your university will then submit the joint application by 13 February 2026. There is no interview.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is restricted to one region: you must be studying at a Basque higher education institution and must have been living in the Basque Country before 1 January 2025, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. Should funds run short, the amounts awarded to all recipients will be reduced rather than students being turned down. So, if you clearly meet the residence and enrolment requirements and submit your documents to your university on time, your chances are good.
