About this scholarship
What the ITC Scholarship offered
It was a cash bonus of around 2,900 EUR for up to 36 months. It was awarded to elite swimmers who trained at the British Swimming Intensive Training Centre (ITC) at the University of Bath whilst studying there. An ITC was a daily training centre where national team swimmers combined full-time training, swimming sessions and sports science support with their studies. The money helped the athletes cover the costs of competing and training at the highest level alongside their studies. The programme was funded by British Swimming and the University of Bath.
This programme has ended
The ITC model was discontinued in December 2013. British Swimming opened five Intensive Training Centres (ITCs) in 2008, but due to budget cuts, the network was scaled back and the name ‘ITC’ and the associated scholarship were abolished. The centre in Bath is still operated today as the ‘Aquatics GB Performance Centre’, but the ITC scholarship no longer exists. Swimmers training in Bath now apply for athlete membership of the ‘Aquatics GB Performance Centre’ or for the University of Bath’s own sports scholarships (such as the Bill Whiteley and Trendell scholarships). These are separate programmes with their own rules.
