Chevening Scholarships

At every UK university, you will receive a fully-funded one-year master's degree, funded by the UK Department for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs. This will cover your tuition fees in full and provide a monthly living allowance of approximately 2,600 EUR to help with rent and living costs. In London, the living allowance is higher than elsewhere. In addition, you will receive a return economy-class flight from your home country, your visa costs, lump-sum allowances for arrival and departure, and a travel allowance. You will also take part in a networking programme with other scholarship holders, become part of an alumni network (former scholarship holders) with over 60,000 members worldwide, and have the opportunity to attend events featuring high-profile speakers.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a national of one of the 140+ countries whose citizens are eligible for the Chevening Scholarship. British nationals and those with dual British nationality are not eligible to apply; however, holders of a BN(O) passport from the British Overseas Territories and Hong Kong are exempt from this rule in a limited number of cases.
• Degree: You already hold a bachelor’s degree that is sufficient for admission to a master’s programme in the UK. You must have obtained this degree at least two years before the application deadline. Holding a master’s degree does not disqualify you from applying.
• Work experience: You have at least two years’ professional experience (approximately 2,800 hours) gained since completing your bachelor’s degree.
• Field of study: Any subject at any British university.
• University offers: You are applying for three eligible degree programmes in the UK and have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these programmes by the specified deadline.
• Return home: You undertake to return to your home country for at least two years once the scholarship has ended.
• Where you live now: You are not living in the United Kingdom at the time of applying.

How to apply

You apply online via your country’s page on chevening.org during the annual application period. The 2026/2027 round runs from 4 August to 6 October 2026. The selection panels will review the applications against the criteria and assess them. If you are shortlisted, you will take part in a panel interview in English at a British Embassy or High Commission.

How realistic are your chances?

Chevening is a world-renowned, fully-funded scholarship which, as a result, attracts numerous applicants and is highly competitive. Academic grades alone are not enough. The selection process seeks out aspiring leaders who have genuine professional experience and clear plans to help their home country. If you meet all the set criteria – in particular the two years’ professional experience and offers from the UK – and can also demonstrate leadership qualities and a compelling personal story, you have a genuine chance of success.
