Testerup lists three ways to earn: paid survey tasks, game tests and more than two thousand smaller jobs. On the offer wall itself, game offers stood there throughout, each one with the amount it credits printed on the tile before you take it. Plan around the games and treat surveys or small jobs as a bonus when they appear.

Despite the name, we found no physical products to test and keep. The offers were mobile games, including puzzle, merge and board games. If you already play on your phone, these are the activities Testerup pays for.

How does Testerup work in the UK?

Signing up takes two minutes and needs only an email address. There is no application stage, waiting list or card to enter. Confirm your email to open the catalogue, with your £10 registration bonus already in the balance.

Set up your account on the phone you will use to play. Game progress is tracked on the handset where you install each offer, so use the iOS or Android app on that phone. You can also use Testerup in a browser at testerup.com if you prefer to complete a test at your desk.

You start with three offers; the full catalogue opens just under two hours later. A dashboard counter shows how long remains. You can take one of the three straight away while you wait for the rest.

The headline amount on a tile is the total for the whole ladder. Three games waiting on day one came to a combined Worth of £1,127.80 on the dashboard; ten hours in, with one purchase behind it, this account held £26.10. Use the individual rewards listed below the headline to plan your earnings.

£55 is the smallest amount that can leave, and the money sits in a handful of steps rather than spread across the ladder. The biggest single one here credited £15.00. Go for the steps that carry a deadline, because that is where the £55 comes from. Testerup suits people who already play on their phones and want to earn from that time.

An in-game package buys speed, not profit. The cheapest starter pack on one ladder cost £2.99 and returned £3.00 through a reward step and cashback on the first purchase. It made little difference to earnings, but we completed levels 12 times faster than the day before.

A purchase pays for itself when it takes you to the next paying step. Spending £6.00 between two burning rewards returned 90p. That ladder paid £1.50 at room 5 and £10.50 at room 8, with 40p and 50p steps between them. Aim your spending at the next paying step so you earn the money back.

Testerup payouts - how and how fast?

How long the payout took

This review is one account, run to the end. We opened an ordinary account from the UK, took the offers the wall actually held, put money into the games where a ladder needed it, and followed the balance until it left the platform. Every figure above was read off the screen it stood on - the amount on the tile before the offer was started, the request form, the receipt afterwards - and the screenshots are those screens rather than illustrations of them.

The person running it is a paid tester. He registered himself, on his own phone, in the country he lives in, and he worked inside the rules Testerup sets for everybody: one account, no VPN, no emulator, and no second handset feeding the first. Eighteen of us cover five markets on that basis. Nobody handed him a route through the ladders either, and that is the point of it - a review is only worth reading if the account behind it started where yours would.

What the score at the top is built on. A single platform cannot be ranked against itself, so here is what moved the number: that the payout ran the whole way and arrived unreduced, what a step credits against the time and the money its ladder asks for, and how the platform behaves at the moment you want to be paid. What did not move it: the headline amount printed on an offer tile, which adds up a whole ladder rather than anything a player takes home, and the star average on its own. Two things stay out of this review on purpose.
