About this award / prize
INTECO ASMET Award
You will receive prize money for an outstanding thesis in the field of metallurgy. Three separate prizes will be awarded: 1,500 EUR for the best doctoral thesis, 1,000 EUR for the best diploma or Master’s thesis, and 500 EUR for the best Bachelor’s thesis. The prize is awarded once a year by ASMET, the Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials. The prize money is provided by INTECO Schmelz- und Gusstechnologien GmbH. The prize winners will receive their certificates and prizes during the ASMET Forum gala evening at the Montanuniversität Leoben.
Who can apply
- Your work: You have written a bachelor’s thesis, a diploma or master’s thesis, or a doctoral thesis.
- Field: Your dissertation focuses on metallurgy, for example plant engineering, primary or secondary metallurgy, casting processes (ingot and continuous casting) or remelting.
- Age: You are generally under 40 years old.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
You apply at the ASMET office or through the online form on the ASMET website. You hand in a short cover letter, your CV, a summary of your thesis, the full thesis, and a list of your publications. If your work is under embargo, the summary alone is enough. The deadline is at the end of March.
How realistic are your chances?
This prize is very narrowly defined. It applies exclusively to final-year theses in the field of metallurgy and, in practice, is usually awarded to students from Leoben, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. If your final-year project clearly falls within one of the fields of metallurgy and is of a high standard, your chances are good, especially as there is a separate prize for each of the three degree levels.
