About this grant / loan
What the Project support gives you
You will receive one-off payment towards the material costs of an artistic or academic project. There is no fixed amount. The amount is determined on the basis of the funding plan you submit, so that it corresponds to the actual costs of your project. The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna funds these projects for its own students. The funding covers costs such as materials or hired equipment. Equipment worth more than 700 EUR (excluding VAT) that you are unable to hire may also be funded, but will become the property of your institution once the project has ended. The grant does not cover your own fee, living costs such as rent or food, or new technology (screens, cameras, projectors) which you could instead hire.
Who can apply
- University: You are a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and are working towards a degree.
- Field of study: Open to all courses at the Academy.
- Your project: It must be of an artistic or academic nature – or both – and directly related to your degree programme.
- Doctoral students: Artistic projects undertaken by PhD students are not funded. An exception to this is the ‘PhD in Practice’ programme, in which artistic projects form part of the curriculum.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- One award only: You may apply for both this scholarship and the support scholarship, but you will only be awarded one of the two.
How to apply
You must submit your project proposal, your portfolio and your current certificate of enrolment via the Academy’s online application system. The submission period runs from 5. to 19 May; the deadline for submissions is 19 May at 11:00. In your application, you must name two teachers as referees. They will only sign once they have discussed your project with you.
How realistic are your chances?
Only students who are already enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna are eligible to apply, so the pool of applicants is small from the outset. The key criteria are a clear, well-planned project that is directly related to your course of study, as well as two lecturers who are willing to support the project. If your proposal is concrete and your funding plan is realistic, your chances are good.
