About this scholarship
What the Research Promotion of the Province of Tyrol gives you
You will receive a grant (funding that does not need to be repaid) from the Culture Department of the Tyrolean Provincial Government. This funding supports a research project with a connection to Tyrol: a publication, a conference or event, a scholarly archiving project or an archaeological excavation. The amount is not fixed. It is determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the merit of your project and the amount of funding required. The grant may be paid out in instalments. Once the project has been completed, you must submit a final statement of accounts.
Who can apply
- What you do: You are leading a research or academic project, a publication, an event or an archaeological project.
- Link to Tyrol: Your project is clearly about the province of Tyrol.
- Quality: Your work meets academic standards.
- Own contribution: As a general rule, you are expected to cover part of the costs yourself – whether through your own money, materials or labour – and to provide evidence of this. Exceptions may be made if this is not financially viable for you.
- Need: You can demonstrate that, without this funding, the project cannot be carried out, or at least not in its entirety.
- Timing: Applications must be submitted before the project begins, not afterwards.
- Field and nationality: Any topic and any applicant may apply, provided the project relates to Tyrol.
- Not for Tyrolean universities: Projects run by Tyrolean universities fall under a separate programme (the Tyrolean Science Promotion). This grant covers research, publications and events with a Tyrol connection.
How to apply
You submit your application online via the provincial portal, using the general funding application form for culture (‘Culture – General Funding Application’). There is no fixed deadline, so you can submit your application at any time, provided you do so before your project begins. You must include a project description, a budget showing income and expenditure, the project timetable, and a list of all other funding you have applied for.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is narrowly defined: your project must relate to Tyrol, meet academic standards and demonstrate a genuine need for funding. As a result, the pool of eligible projects is small. If you can clearly meet these conditions and demonstrate why the project is dependent on this funding, your chances are good. There is no automatic entitlement to the grant, and it is awarded only within the limits of the available budget; therefore, a well-reasoned application with a cost estimate that is in line with the project’s requirements is crucial.
