About this scholarship

What the William Demant Fonden funds

The William Demant Fonden is a Danish company foundation based in Smørum. It supports students and researchers through several programmes. Amounts vary by programme and are worked out from your budget:

  • Travel grants: Money towards a study or internship stay abroad, in any field. For longer stays you get the grant one year at a time, and you can apply for a second year.
  • Conference grants: Money towards attending a conference abroad, if you take an active part by giving a talk or presenting a poster.
  • Research funding: Support for research projects in audiology (the science of hearing) or related fields, ideally with clear relevance for Danish society or industry.
  • PhD scholarships: Two scholarships that cover your whole three-year PhD (doctoral research degree) in audiology or hearing research. You can do a large part of the work at respected institutions abroad. Your university and the foundation agree the exact plan.

The foundation does not fund studies inside Denmark (including online teaching), sports or youth clubs, commercial purposes, political organisations, or building work on private property.

Who can apply

  • Field of study: Travel grants are open to all subjects. Research and PhD funding must focus on audiology or related technical fields.
  • Degree level (travel grants): You already hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Grades (travel grants): You have an average of at least 7 on the Danish grading scale.
  • Where you go: The stay must be abroad, not in Denmark.
  • PhD scholarships: You are enrolled at a relevant university and live in Denmark.
  • One grant per purpose: You can only apply once for the same purpose.

How to apply

You apply through the foundation's online portal, linked from its website. Travel, conference and research applications are handled on a rolling basis. Apply at least one month before your stay begins; processing takes about two to three months. The two PhD scholarships are awarded once a year, with a deadline of 1 December 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

The foundation awards two PhD scholarships per year. The sources do not state how many people apply.
