What you get

You receive up to 3,300 EUR for a stay of 7 weeks to 6 months abroad while you write your final degree project (TFG for a bachelor's, TFM for a master's). The money is a partial contribution towards travel, living costs, health insurance, vaccinations and visa fees, so it does not cover everything. The Technical University of Madrid (UPM) runs it to support students who write their thesis on international cooperation for sustainable development, mainly in Africa and Latin America.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM).
• Degree level: You are writing your final project for a bachelor's (TFG) or master's (TFM).
• Field of study: Your programme is in engineering, architecture, computer science, sports science or fashion design.
• Where you go: You carry out your thesis at a university or institution in a low- or middle-income country, for example Colombia, Benin, Chile, Mozambique, Guatemala, Bolivia or Peru.
• Topic: Your project links to international cooperation for sustainable development. You either bring your own proposal (with a UPM supervisor and a supervisor at the host institution) or pick one from UPM's list of cooperation projects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply, and there is no age limit.

How to apply

You apply online through UPM's electronic office and by email to the international cooperation office, using the form for your chosen line. There are two windows. The first closes on 18 February 2026 and takes own-proposal projects only. The second closes on 29 May 2026 and takes both types. UPM ranks applications against its published scoring criteria and announces the decisions during the year.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a narrow group: you must be a UPM student in one of a few named fields, writing your thesis in a low- or middle-income country on a development topic. That keeps the eligible group small. If you clearly fit those conditions and have a concrete, well-matched project, your prospects are good. Applying in the first window and choosing a topic from UPM's own project list can strengthen a solid application.
