Säätiö LVY sr - Scholarship

What you get

You get a cash grant for research or a thesis in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and sanitary engineering (HVAC, in Finnish LVI). Recent awards were 6,000 EUR for a research grant and 1,000 EUR for a thesis scholarship. The exact amount changes each year, as the foundation's board decides how much to give and on what terms. The money supports doctoral dissertations, master's theses and final theses at universities of applied sciences. Säätiö LVY sr is a Finnish foundation, set up in 1953 by the HVAC Association of Finland (Suomen LVI-liitto SuLVI).

Who can apply

• Field of study: Your research project or dissertation focuses on HVAC: heating, ventilation, air conditioning or plumbing.
• Level: You are working on a doctoral thesis, a Master’s thesis or a final-year dissertation at a university of applied sciences.
• Where you study: You study at a Finnish technical institute, university of applied sciences or technical university.
• Who submits it: You do not apply yourself. In the case of a research grant, your teacher, your professor or the company carrying out the project submits the application. In the case of a scholarship for a final-year dissertation, you are nominated by your supervisor, your professor or a company that has been involved in supervising your dissertation.
• Thesis quality: To be eligible for a thesis scholarship, you must have completed a thesis with a good mark. The award is based on the mark and the quality of the work.

How to apply

You send an informal application by email to the foundation at the SuLVI office in Helsinki. There is no fixed deadline; applications are accepted all year round. A research grant application needs your project plan, schedule and the amount you ask for. If you study at a university of applied sciences, also attach a reference from your teacher. A thesis scholarship needs a copy of the thesis plus its title, grade and date.
