Fondation de France/Conservatoire de Paris - Macari Lepeuve Bursaries

Anyone studying music composition or harmony at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP), France’s leading music conservatoire, receives a cash prize. The foundation awards two prizes each year: one for harmony (the composition of music according to the rules of chord theory and voice leading) and one for composition. The prize-winners perform at an annual concert at which the prizes are awarded. The exact amount of the prize money is not disclosed. The Macari-Lepeuve Foundation is one of several music funds operated under the umbrella of the Fondation de France, the country’s largest philanthropic network.

Eligibility

• University: You are studying at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP).
• Field of study: You’re studying composition or harmony.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Talent: You are recognised for your outstanding artistic skills in your field.
• Financial need: Your financial situation also plays a part, as some of the winners are selected on the basis of social criteria.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. A panel of experts from the Conservatoire selects the winners from amongst its own students. To be considered, you must be enrolled at the CNSMDP in either composition or harmony.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very selective: only students of composition and harmony at a Parisian conservatoire are eligible, and only two prizes are awarded each year. You cannot apply yourself, so your chances depend entirely on being nominated by the internal selection committee. If you are an outstanding CNSMDP student in these subjects and have a genuine financial need, you are already part of the small group from which the committee makes its selection.
