Maison Française d'Oxford scholarship (Chancellerie des Universités de Paris)

You will receive 9,000 EUR for a research stay at the Maison Française d’Oxford, a French research centre in Oxford, England. The scholarship covers a stay of up to 6 months within an academic year. The Chancellery of the Universities of Paris awards this scholarship once a year to a PhD student under an agreement with the Maison Française d’Oxford.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are a PhD student. Master’s students and postdoctoral researchers are not eligible to apply.
• Where you study: You are enrolled at one of the 16 universities in the Île-de-France region around Paris.
• Field of study: You work in the humanities or social sciences. Previous winners have included academics from the fields of history, philosophy, archaeology, law and English studies.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. You only need to be enrolled at an Île-de-France university.

How to apply

You should submit your application directly to the Chancellery of the Universités de Paris, using the form available on their website. The call for applications takes place once a year. The next one begins in March 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is highly selective: it is aimed exclusively at PhD students from one of the 16 universities in the Greater Paris area who are studying the humanities or social sciences. Only one person is selected each year. This keeps the pool of eligible applicants small, but as there is only one scholarship available, there is genuine competition amongst those who qualify. A clearly defined research project for which Oxford is indispensable stands out in particular.
