Ustaritz Bursaries

You will receive a scholarship to fund your organ studies at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP). The exact amount is not disclosed. The Conservatoire’s private scholarships range from a few hundred euros to around 2,000 EUR per year and are determined on a case-by-case basis to cover living costs during the academic year (September to June). The funding comes from the Fondation Yves Brieux-Ustaritz, which supports organ students at the Conservatoire and awards two organ prizes each year to the winners of the school’s performance and improvisation competitions.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the CNSMDP in Paris.
• Field of study: You’re studying the organ.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Age: No age limit.
• What counts: The selection process takes into account your musical ability, your academic performance and your financial need.
• Exchange students: If you are studying at the Conservatoire as part of an international exchange programme (e.g. Erasmus+), you cannot apply and should instead contact your home university.

How to apply

Applications are made via the Conservatoire’s student portal (ENT) under the ‘Aides privées’ section, by completing an online form and attaching the required documents. Application deadlines will be announced by email and begin in mid-July, before the start of the academic year. For some scholarships, you may be required to sit an audition or attend an interview. The decision is made by an internal committee at the Conservatoire.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined: you must be studying the organ at a specific higher education institution, which means that only a small number of students are eligible and very few apply. If you are an organ student at the CNSMDP and have a strong track record of artistic and academic achievement, your chances are good. Keep an eye out for the call for applications via email and apply as soon as the application period opens.
