About this scholarship

Pierre Schaeffer Scholarship (Brouillon d'un reve)

You will receive a one-off payment of 5,000 EUR (gross) to carry out a digital art project that combines art, science and technology. One project is funded each year. If two people carry out the project together, they will share the sum of 5,000 EUR. The winner will also present the project in August at the Eufonic Festival for Digital Art in Catalonia, Spain; travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the organisers. The prize is awarded by LaScam, a French organisation representing creators in the fields of audiovisual media, broadcasting, literature, photography, journalism and new media, in collaboration with the Eufonic Festival.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: Any adult. You do not need to be a LaScam member, and no prior knowledge is required.
  • Nationality and age: All nationalities welcome; no age restrictions.
  • Residence: You must live in Europe.
  • Your project: A digital work that combines art, science and technology and utilises new technologies. It must be a new idea, not a finished work or a commissioned piece.
  • Research partner: You must carry out the project in collaboration with a research organisation such as a university, a museum, a laboratory, a company, a foundation or an association. This organisation will provide you with technical support, funding, expertise or premises. You must be an external individual and must not be an employee or a student of that organisation.
  • Team size: One or two authors are permitted per project. Companies or organisations cannot apply on their own behalf.
  • Language: You must write your application in English. A little Spanish would also be an advantage.
  • Timing rule: You may only submit one application per year for all LaScam funding schemes. If you have already received a ‘Brouillon d'un rêve’ grant, you must wait three years before you can apply again.

How to apply

Register online via LaScam between 5 and 15 October (until midnight). Your application will first undergo an eligibility check. The participating authors will then draw up a shortlist, and a jury comprising authors and the artistic director of the Eufonic Festival will make the final decision. The process takes around four months. The decisions are final and no reasons will be given.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one project is funded each year, so this is a single, prestigious award, and the competition is fierce. The jury assesses originality and a genuine connection between art, science and technology – which is why your idea counts for more than your CV. The tricky part is finding a research institution that’s willing to support you. If you already have such a partner and a strong, unusual concept, you’ll stand out from the applicants who don’t.
