About this scholarship

Benefit

The Robert Mandrou Fellowship was a summer research grant of 1,200 EUR for a research stay in Germany of 4 to 12 weeks. This flat-rate sum was meant to cover a medium-length summer stay to research German history and civilisation. It came from the Institut français d'histoire en Allemagne (IFHA), a French history research institute based at Goethe University in Frankfurt. One fellowship was awarded per year. You did not have to live in Frankfurt for the stay.

Eligibility

  • Level: You were a doctoral student (working towards a PhD).
  • Where you studied: You were enrolled at or worked for a French higher education or research institution.
  • Nationality: Any nationality could apply. You did not need to be French.
  • Field of study: Any subject in the humanities or social sciences, as long as your research concerned Germany or the German-speaking world (its history and civilisation from Antiquity to the 20th century).
  • Supervisor: You had a written statement from your research supervisor.

How to apply

You sent your application by post to the director of the IFHA. The deadline was the end of April for a stay the following summer. A committee of IFHA researchers picked the recipient from the applications.
