About this award / prize

The Louis Latour Prize

You win a trip to Maison Louis Latour in Beaune, a wine house in the Burgundy region of France. Past winners toured the cooperage (where oak barrels are made) and the underground wine caves, tasted around 18 wines, and shared meals with the company's representatives. This is an experience, not a cash award. Maison Louis Latour sponsors the prize and hands it out each year at the Shannon College graduation ceremony. It honours Alec Slefer, a Shannon College lecturer in oenology (the study of wine) who died in 1991.
