About this award / prize

The Peter Dempsey Award in Applied Psychology

You will receive a one-off payment of 1,000 EUR, as well as a certificate designed to help you gain entry to a postgraduate programme in applied psychology. The exact amount may vary slightly from year to year, as the award is funded not from a fixed budget but from the returns on an investment fund. University College Cork (UCC) awards the prize once a year in memory of Rev. Professor Peter Dempsey, the university’s first Professor of Applied Psychology.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You’re studying at University College Cork in Ireland.
  • Study phase: You are in the final year of a BA degree with honours, a BSc degree with honours or the Higher Diploma in Psychology.
  • Field of study: Applied psychology or psychology.
  • Grades: You achieved the highest marks in your final year. You also passed all your previous exams at the first attempt and in the shortest possible time, without having to retake any or experiencing any delays. If no pupil achieves a sufficiently high standard, the award will not be presented this year.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You do not apply yourself. The teaching staff of the applied psychology department nominate the top final-year student. UCC's Academic Council then makes the final decision, together with the heads of the relevant colleges and the external examiner.
