About this award / prize

What you get

At the University of Genoa, you are awarded a reduction of your tuition fees if you achieve good academic results. The university reduces the annual tuition fee and deducts the reduced amount from the third instalment. First-year students who were admitted with top marks receive a reduction of 200 EUR. From the second year of study onwards, you will receive 400 EUR if you are in the top group (first performance tier) in your degree programme, or 200 EUR in the second performance tier. You do not need to apply; the University grants the reduction automatically for the current academic year. An academic merit bonus earned in the final year of your Bachelor’s degree may reduce your tuition fees in the first year of a follow-up degree programme at the University of Genoa.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying at the University of Genoa on a Bachelor’s, Master’s or single-cycle Master’s programme.
  • Full-time: You are enrolled as a full-time student and have a study plan worth at least 31 ECTS credits.
  • On schedule: You are within the standard period of study. You are not repeating a year and will not be completing your degree late.
  • Fees paid: You have no outstanding fees and are duly enrolled for the current academic year.
  • Merit: First-years must have finished their entry qualification with top marks. Later-year students must rank in the first or second merit band (the top-scoring students) of their course and year. The ranking is based on credits earned, grade average, distinctions, income (ISEE-U) and age.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Not combinable: You are not eligible for this if you are fully exempt from tuition fees, are studying part-time or are receiving a grant from the regional authority ALISEO.

How to apply

No application is required. The university reviews the academic merit rankings and automatically grants the fee reduction to all those who are eligible.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a merit-based ranking, not an open selection process. Places are allocated to the students with the highest marks in each degree programme and each year group, so the number of places is determined by the academic performance tiers and does not depend on the number of applicants. If you are a high-achieving student at the University of Genoa and are completing your degree on a full-time basis as scheduled, you have a genuine chance. As places are allocated automatically, you won’t miss out if you fail to submit an application.
