About this award / prize

What you get

For an outstanding final dissertation, you will receive a one-off prize of 1,500 EUR (before tax). The prize is divided into three categories, with one winner selected in each, meaning that a total of three prizes of 1,500 EUR will be awarded. The jury may also award special honours. The winning dissertations will be published online and in the press. The prize is organised by Fondazione Cogeme ets in collaboration with Cogeme S.p.A., Cogeme Energia and Acque Bresciane, water and energy companies based near Brescia in northern Italy.

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You have completed a Bachelor’s degree (laurea triennale), a Master’s degree (laurea magistrale/specialistica) or a PhD (dottorato di ricerca), or are about to complete one.
  • University: You are studying at any university in Italy.
  • Topic: Your dissertation falls within one of the following three subject areas: water management; renewable energy and energy efficiency; or the circular economy, recycling and sustainable culture based on the ‘Earth Charter’.
  • When you handed in your thesis: You submitted it to your university between June 2025 and 30 September 2026.
  • Language: A thesis written in a foreign language is acceptable, but you must include a detailed summary in Italian.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Bonus, not a requirement: In the event of a tie, priority will be given to applicants who live in a Cogeme member municipality or in the province of Brescia, and preference will be given to projects related to the activities of the partner organisations.

How to apply

Please complete the online application form. You should then email your CV, your thesis and an abstract (a brief summary of your thesis) as PDF files. The closing date for submissions is 7 November 2026. A technical committee will check whether your submission meets the formal requirements; a scientific committee will then select the winners and decide on any special awards.

How realistic are your chances?

The topic filter is narrowly defined: your final dissertation must relate to one of the three sustainability themes, meaning that there are far fewer entries in each category than there would be for an open scholarship. As there is only one winner per category, a compelling final dissertation that is relevant to the theme has a genuine chance of winning. If you live in the Brescia region or your thesis deals with the activities of the partners, this will work in your favour. The jury may decide not to award a prize if no thesis is deemed worthy of one.
