About this scholarship

Óbidos Municipality higher education scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of 750, 1,100 or 1,500 EUR per academic year, which will be paid by bank transfer. The amount depends on how far your university is from your place of residence: For a distance of up to 50 km, you will receive 750 EUR; for 50 to 150 km, you will receive 1,100 EUR; and for more than 150 km, you will receive 1,500 EUR. How much of this you receive depends on your household income: the full amount at the lowest income bracket, 80% at the middle bracket and 60% at the highest eligible bracket. The grant is awarded by the municipality of Óbidos (Município de Óbidos). You must reapply each year, up to the standard duration of your degree programme.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You have been living in the municipality of Óbidos for at least 3 years. If you are of legal age, you are registered there.
  • Nationality: You are a Portuguese citizen.
  • Level of study: You are studying on a Bachelor’s degree programme (Licenciatura).
  • Where you study: Your higher education institution is officially recognised (state, private or cooperative) and is located in Portugal or another EU country within the Bologna Process area.
  • Field of study: Any topic is fine.
  • Age: You are no older than 30.

  • No debts: Your tax and social security contributions are up to date. You have no outstanding debts to the local authority, or you are paying them off in instalments.
  • Other grants: This funding cannot be combined with other grants, with the exception of the DGES state study grant scheme.

How to apply

Applications are made online via the municipality’s portal at cm-obidos.pt. The application period depends on when you were offered a place at university: from 1 to 30 September if you are already studying or were offered a place in the first round of admissions, from 1 to 31 October for the second round, and from 1 to 30 November for the third round. A committee assesses the applications, with the lowest per capita income being given the greatest weighting.
