UCL Department of Economics - Royal Economic Society one-year Junior Fellowship Awards

Benefit

This one-year fellowship (a funded research post) gave PhD economics students in the UK about 14,700 EUR for 12 months to support their research and teaching. In the original amounts, that was 9,500 GBP for students outside London and 12,500 GBP for those in London. The Royal Economic Society (RES) ran the scheme from 1995 and offered up to ten awards per year.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You were a PhD student working on a doctoral thesis.
• Field: Economics.
• Where you study: You were enrolled at a UK university.
• Timing: You had done at least two years of work on your thesis when the award started, so usually your third or fourth year.
• Nationality: Any nationality could apply, as long as you studied at a UK university.

How to apply

The RES discontinued this scheme in December 2017. No awards were made in 2018 or later. The Society still supports PhD economics students in other ways, including an annual job-market meeting, an Easter training school, a junior researcher symposium, travel support for presenting at its Annual Conference, and a reduced conference fee.
