A paid survey pays 30p to £5 at the providers we tested, depending on length and topic. More and more market research agencies pay for your opinion, but not every site in the UK is equally reliable. We have put together the panels that are, and show per provider what you realistically earn.

Freecash is a get-paid-to platform with 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot from more than 312,000 reviews, by far the broadest review base of any site on this page. Surveys run up to £5, and alongside them sit games, app tests and partner offers. That is the practical difference to a classic panel: when questionnaire quotas fill up, the flow of tasks does not stop. Freecash pays in real money - PayPal, Visa, bank transfer or cryptocurrency - not in a balance you have to convert first. The threshold starts at £3.85 via PayPal and depends on your region, so check it in the payout screen after signing up. The operator is Almedia GmbH in Berlin, which falls under GDPR.

Testerup is run by aestimium GmbH in Hamburg and connects UK users with companies that want real feedback on mobile games, apps and digital products. It is not a classic survey panel: instead of building up a balance at a rate you have to work out for yourself, you see the cash amount for each offer before you start and it is credited in pounds. Testerup puts the ceiling at £129 per offer on its own homepage, and lists more than 20 exclusive offers worth over £800 in total. Surveys sit alongside the game and app work, with £6 shown as the example in Testerup's own UK screenshots. The catch is the threshold: PayPal payouts start at £55, which is the highest figure on this page, so it is best treated as the high-ceiling option you build up in parallel to a site that pays out quickly.

Prograd is a UK rewards and financial-skills platform aimed at students and young adults, and it is the only provider in our top four that is built for this market alone. Prograd puts its own survey range at £2 to £5, so a good survey here pays about what a good survey pays at Freecash. What sets it apart from a pure panel is the mix: alongside questionnaires there are daily Drops, game offers and short Learn and Earn modules on money skills, each paying into the same balance. Prograd advertises a £4 gift for signing up on its homepage, which is a useful head start against a £15 threshold. Two things to know before you commit: the terms put the minimum age at 18, and the payout threshold sits higher than the £10 many older reviews still quote.

Mingle has been running since 2005 and is operated by Bilendi Limited in London, which makes it the most conventional market research panel in our top four. Invitations arrive about once a week and each project takes 5 to 20 minutes, so this is a steady earner rather than a fast one. Be aware of two things before you sign up. Mingle does not publish what a single survey pays. From what UK members report being paid, a typical one comes to about 40p and a long one to around 60p - our estimate, not a figure from Mingle. And the smallest reward it offers is £16, so that is your first cash-out, not the £8 that several UK review sites still quote. What you get in return is a genuinely useful voucher list for the UK, about 2p back when a survey screens you out and the occasional product test you carry out at home. Run it alongside a task platform rather than on its own.
What do paid surveys really pay in the UK?
You will not replace a salary with surveys, and any site that suggests otherwise is worth closing. What surveys do reliably deliver is small, flexible extra income. Here is what our testers earned, by how much time they put in:

The rate is roughly £1 per 5 minutes, so a 15 minute survey pays about £3 and longer studies pay more. Payment is by BACS transfer into a UK current account. The £50 threshold is high, so treat it as a panel you build up over months.

Oxford based platform that connects you with academic researchers. Every study has to pay at least £6 an hour and many pay more, which puts the effective rate at the top end for the UK. Once you qualify for a study you are always paid, with no mid-survey screen-out. PayPal from £5, processed 1 to 3 working days after approval. The limit is availability: studies fill fast, so you need to check often.
A dedicated survey platform with no videos and no games, and the UK is one of its main markets, so there is usually something in the list. The threshold is £3.80, paid via PayPal or Amazon gift cards within 1 to 3 working days. A badge system unlocks better opportunities the longer you stay, and daily polls top up your balance quickly.
London based, and the one platform on this page with no payout threshold whatsoever: you can withdraw from your first penny, which makes it a quick way to prove to yourself that survey money is real. Surveys typically pay 20p to £3. Qmee also rewards ordinary web searches through its browser extension and pays cashback on online shopping.

Get started in 5 steps
- 1Pick two or three panels from the list above rather than just one. A single panel does not send enough invitations to add up to much.
- 2Use a separate email address. Survey invitations arrive daily and many expire within 24 hours. A dedicated inbox keeps them out of your main one and stops you missing the good ones.
- 3Fill in your profile completely. Location, household, education, hobbies and pets all decide which surveys you are matched with. A thin profile means far fewer invitations.
- 4Answer honestly and consistently. Panels run quality checks, and contradictory answers get accounts flagged or closed before you ever reach the payout threshold.
- 5Cash out as soon as you reach the minimum. Balances at some panels expire after a period of inactivity, so take the money rather than saving up for a bigger reward.
Tips to earn more per hour
How to spot a survey site that is not worth it
We tested well over 70 platforms to arrive at the list on this page. The ones that did not make it usually gave themselves away early:
- It charges to join. Genuine panels make their money from clients, not from members.
- It promises unrealistic earnings. Daily three-figure sums from questionnaires do not exist.
- The payout threshold is very high. A minimum of £100 or more is a way of never paying out at all.
- Points expire quickly or the rate is hidden. If you cannot work out what a point is worth in pounds before you start, assume the worst.
- No company details and no privacy policy. Under UK GDPR a panel handling your data has to say who it is.
- Reviews describe unpaid balances. One angry review means nothing; a pattern of the same complaint means a lot.
Do you pay tax on survey income in the UK?
The UK has a Trading Allowance of £1,000 per tax year. If everything you earn from surveys and any other side income stays below that, there is nothing to report to HMRC and nothing to pay.
Go over £1,000 of online income in a tax year and you will need to register as self-employed with HMRC and file a Self Assessment return, with the amount above the allowance taxed at your marginal rate. For someone earning £50 to £200 a month from surveys this does not arise, but if you are combining panels with other side hustles and approaching the threshold it is worth keeping records. For anything specific, check with HMRC or a tax adviser.
