About this grant / loan

UWE Bristol part-time postgraduate fee waiver

You will receive 75% of your tuition fees waived for the academic year 2025/26 at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). This covers your tuition fees only. You will not receive any financial support towards your living costs. The waiver applies to one academic year at a time as part of a part-time postgraduate programme.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are commencing a postgraduate programme (Master’s or PhD) at UWE Bristol. This must be your first degree at this level. If you already hold a Master’s degree, you may still apply for an exemption to undertake a PhD programme.
  • Study mode: Part-time study only. Your course lasts for at least one academic year, and you are enrolled for 80 credit points or fewer.
  • Residence: For the purposes of tuition fees, you are considered a British ‘domestic student’.
  • Financial need: You have received a means-tested benefit (which is based on your income) without interruption during the six months prior to 1 September – or prior to 1 January, if you are starting in January. Benefits that qualify you for this include Universal Credit, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or a Council Tax reduction.
  • Care leavers: If you have been discharged from care, you are entitled to the benefit without having to meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Field of study: All participants are eligible to take part.

How realistic are your chances?

This exemption is aimed at a small group of people. You must be studying part-time at UWE Bristol, be classified as a home student, and either be receiving means-tested social security benefits or have been discharged from care. As a result, the number of people eligible remains small. Eligibility is based on need rather than academic performance. If you clearly meet these criteria, your chances are good.
