About this award / prize

Armin Tschermak von Seysenegg Award

You will receive a one-off prize of EUR 5,000 for outstanding scientific achievement in veterinary medicine. This is a one-off cash prize, not a monthly scholarship, which is awarded once a year. The prize is sponsored by the ‘Friends of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna’, a support organisation affiliated with the university. It is named after a physiologist who taught there at the beginning of the 20. century.

Who can apply

  • Who it is for: You are a early-career researcher at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna.
  • What you submit: You would like to present a completed piece of academic research.
  • Field: You work in the field of veterinary medicine.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Please submit your application by 1 September each year to the Vice-Rectorate for Research at the University of Vienna. A committee comprising professors and lecturers will assess the submissions, and the Executive Board will select the winner.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is very narrowly defined. It is awarded to a young researcher from a single university for outstanding scientific work, meaning that only a small group of candidates are eligible each year. If your research is compelling and clearly falls within the field of veterinary medicine, a well-documented submission stands a real chance of success. As only one prize is awarded each year, the quality of your work is crucial.
