VÖWA academic award

For a completed academic thesis that is relevant to business practice, you will receive a one-off cash prize of up to 1,000 EUR. The amount of the prize depends on the type of thesis: up to 1,000 EUR for a doctoral thesis, 400 euros for a diploma or Master’s thesis, and 300 euros for a Bachelor’s thesis. The prize is sponsored by the Association of Austrian Business Academics (VÖWA), a nationwide network of economists, business graduates and executives.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are studying at Johannes Kepler University Linz or at a university of applied sciences in Upper Austria.
• What you submit: You have written a dissertation, or a bachelor's, diploma or master's thesis.
• Field of study: You work in the fields of economics, business administration or law.
• Grade: Your dissertation was awarded a ‘Very Good’, the highest mark in Austria.
• Practical relevance: Your work is relevant to the practical world of business, not just in theory.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.

The deadline is 30 September. You can reach the VÖWA office in Vienna with questions about submitting your thesis.

How realistic are your chances?

This award has very strict eligibility criteria. You must be studying at specific universities in Upper Austria, write a dissertation in economics, business administration or law, and achieve the top mark of ‘Very Good’. This means that the pool of eligible candidates remains small. If your dissertation covers these subject areas, has a strong practical focus and is awarded the top mark, your chances are good.
