About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a scholarship of one-month research stay in Hungary. This will enable you to work on site with the collections, archives or research institutions you require. The programme is run by the OeAD on behalf of the ‘Aktion Österreich-Ungarn’ Foundation. It is funded by the Austrian Ministry of Science and the Hungarian Ministry of Culture.
Eligibility
- Who you are: You teach or carry out research at an Austrian higher education institution. These include state and private universities, universities of applied sciences and teacher training colleges.
- Where you go: You are visiting a Hungarian higher education institution or research organisation that appears on the official list. These include archives, libraries and museums such as the Széchenyi National Library, the Hungarian National Museum and the Hungarian National Archives.
- Field of study: Anyone interested is very welcome.
- Your project: You are carrying out a research project in collaboration with a Hungarian partner. The programme only funds projects that are shared between the two countries.
- Age: No age limit.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online at scholarships.at in German. There are four application deadlines each year: 15 March, 15 May, 30 October and 15 December. The Foundation’s scholarship committee will review your application and select the scholarship recipients. You will receive a response within approximately two months of the relevant deadline.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. You must be employed at an Austrian higher education institution and be carrying out a joint project with a Hungarian partner, meaning that only a small number of people meet the eligibility criteria. If you clearly meet these conditions and have a concrete bilateral research proposal, your chances are good. With four submission rounds per year, you can also choose the round that suits you best.
