About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive 1,850 EUR per month for 6 months, totalling 11,100 EUR, for a work placement abroad at a small, internationally recognised architectural practice or an organisation specialising in built environment. The aim is to gain artistic and practical professional experience immediately after completing your degree. Up to five scholarships are awarded each year. Up to two of these focus on ‘built environment and spatial planning’, which encompasses not only buildings but also open spaces, energy efficiency and urban planning. If you are a single parent, receive child benefit for at least one child and are neither married nor in a civil partnership, you will receive an additional 200 EUR per month. The programme is offered by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport.
Who can apply
- Degree: You must have completed your degree in architecture within the last three years. You must no longer be enrolled at a university or university of applied sciences.
- Field of study: Architecture.
- Where you go: Please name a specific architectural practice or organisation abroad that matches your architectural interests, and explain your choice. You will begin your 6-month stay in the same year that you apply.
- Work status: You are self-employed. You do not need to have passed the Austrian civil engineer’s examination.
- Nationality or residence: You are an Austrian citizen or are permanently resident in Austria.
- Not before: You have never received a TISCHE scholarship before. Furthermore, you have not received any other long-term scholarship lasting 6 months or more in the same year.
How to apply
Apply by 31 March each year using the online form, specifying the diplomatic mission abroad where you would like to work. A selection panel will choose the scholarship recipients. A clear link between your planned work and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals will strengthen your application.
How realistic are your chances?
The selection criteria for this award are narrowly defined: only Austrian architects who have completed their degree within the last three years and can propose a suitable practice abroad are eligible to apply – so the pool of applicants is small. With up to five scholarships awarded each year, a suitable candidate who can demonstrate a compelling choice of practice and provide a clear rationale for their choice stands a good chance of success. A clear link to sustainability goals will strengthen your chances.
