Vienna University of Technology - Support scholarship

TU Wien Support scholarship

You will receive a one-off grant of between 750 and 3,600 EUR to fund research for your Master’s thesis or doctoral thesis that goes well beyond the usual academic workload. The Dean’s Office of your faculty determines the exact amount. The money is used to reimburse specific research costs such as travel, accommodation and materials, for example as part of a research trip. Each faculty at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) offers this grant twice a year, once per semester.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at TU Wien.
• What you are working on: You are writing a diploma thesis or a dissertation, and the work clearly goes beyond the normal effort of your degree.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: You are a citizen of the European Union. People of other nationalities may apply if they have equivalent status and have lived in Austria continuously for more than 4 years and have been registered there.
• Timing: You are still within the standard period of study, plus one additional grace semester. Exceptions are rare, for example on health grounds.
• Joint projects: If you are working on a project as a group, just one person needs to submit the application and will receive the money on behalf of everyone.

How to apply

Please complete the ‘Application for a Scholarship’ form and email it to the Dean’s Office of your faculty. The deadline is 30 April for the summer term and 15 October for the winter term. There will be no interview, and you will be notified of the decision by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very specific. You must be enrolled at TU Wien, be writing a final thesis or dissertation that genuinely goes beyond the normal workload, and be able to provide evidence of specific research costs. This keeps the pool of applicants small, and the decision is made in a single stage without an interview. If you clearly meet these requirements and can provide evidence of actual costs, such as a research trip, your chances are good.
