About this scholarship

Grant from the Tyrol Land Memorial Foundation

You will receive a one-off payment per academic year, which you do not have to repay: 300 to 3,000 EUR if you are studying in Austria, the EEA or Switzerland, and 500 to 5,000 EUR for an eligible period of study abroad. The exact amount depends on your family’s income, and you can reapply every year. The funding comes from the Tyrolean State Memorial Foundation, which is financed by the Province of Tyrol and its municipalities. It is intended for students in genuine financial need who receive too little or no state study grant.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: Your main place of residence is in Tyrol.
  • Degree level: You are enrolled as a full-time student on a Bachelor’s degree programme. Doctoral programmes are not eligible for funding.
  • Where you study: At a university, university of applied sciences, academy, recognised private higher education institution or conservatoire in Austria, the EEA or Switzerland. Studying outside Europe is only possible for specific reasons.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Age: You are under 30 when you apply.
  • Financial need: Despite your actual needs, you receive no or only insufficient state student finance. Your family’s income (one twelfth of the previous year’s income) must remain below specified limits, for example 3,775 euros per month for a two-person household, with higher limits applying to larger families. If you are fully self-funded, your parents’ income is not taken into account.
  • What does not count: Erasmus or one- to two-semester exchange programmes, language courses, summer schools, distance learning, part-time study for working professionals and work placements abroad.

How to apply

You should submit the online application via the Province of Tyrol’s online forms portal, together with supporting documents such as your certificate of enrolment, your notification of approval for the student grant and a brief letter explaining your situation. The deadline is 30 April of each academic year. A funding committee and the foundation’s board will then decide on the application.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very strictly defined. You must live in Tyrol, be under 30 years of age, be studying full-time and demonstrate a genuine financial need that is not covered by state funding; consequently, the number of people eligible for this grant is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate your financial need, your chances are good. There is no legal entitlement, so a clear, well-reasoned justification is crucial.
