About this award / prize

Annual Contest of the Class of Letters, Moral and Political Sciences

You will win 1,250 EUR if your work is among the six prize-winners selected each year by this class of the Royal Academy of Belgium (Académie royale de Belgique) in Brussels. All six prizes are of equal value, meaning that the class awards a total of 7,500 EUR each year. This is a one-off prize for a single written piece of work, not a monthly payment. Each year, the class sets specific questions, and the prize is awarded to the best answer to one of them.

Who can apply

  • Degree or level: You do not need a university degree or any formal qualifications. Anyone can take part.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Field: Your work must fit the Class's subjects: history, archaeology, literature, philosophy, moral and political sciences, sociology, economics, law or psychology.
  • The work: You are submitting an unpublished academic paper that answers precisely the question the class has set for this year.
  • Quality: The work must be original, clearly presented, methodologically sound and of such high quality that it can be published in its current form.

How to apply

Please submit your entry in triplicate (printed copies) and in digital form to the Permanent Secretary of the Royal Academy of Belgium in Brussels. The deadline for submissions is 15 December. If you wish, you may remain anonymous: sign your entry with a motto and enclose a sealed envelope bearing your name.
