About this award / prize

Benefit

You will receive a one-off cash award. You may use this to fund research work in a laboratory or department at the University of Liège (ULiège), or as a travel grant for further studies or a work placement abroad. The amount is not fixed. It depends on the returns generated by the foundation’s assets in the relevant year and therefore varies from one call for applications to the next. The award is presented by the Fondation Gillet, a foundation of ULiège, and is paid out once a year. It cannot be renewed and does not cover publication costs.

Eligibility

  • Your degree: You obtained your first Master’s degree (or an equivalent qualification) less than 5 years ago, i.e. after 17 October 2021.
  • Where you study now: You are enrolled on a specialised Master’s programme or a PhD programme at ULiège, or you are working as a postdoctoral researcher at the start of your career at ULiège.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Backing from professors: A professor at the institution where you will be working (ULiège or an institution abroad) has agreed to supervise you. Two professors from your previous course of study will write a letter of recommendation for you.

How to apply

You should apply online via the ULiège form for the call for applications 2026-2027. The application deadline is 17 October 2026. You must submit a personal statement, a detailed CV, a project description of up to 5 pages, a breakdown of your funding requirements, your supervisor’s approval and two letters of reference. The committee will assess the projects and may decide not to award any funding if none of them meet the quality requirements.
