About this award / prize

Prix de l'Université des Femmes

You will receive a cash prize for an outstanding dissertation or final-year project that takes a feminist approach. The amount depends on your level of study: the first prize for a Master's thesis is 1,000 EUR and the first prize for a specialised Master's or a Bachelor's final project is 500 EUR. The second and third prizes consist of feminist books rather than cash. The ‘Université des Femmes’ may also publish your award-winning thesis and hold it in its documentation centre. The prize is awarded annually by the “Université des Femmes” in Brussels, with the support of the Directorate for Equal Opportunities of the French-speaking Community of Belgium. Two winners may share a prize equally.

Who can apply

  • What you submit: You have completed a Master’s thesis, a specialised Master’s thesis or a Bachelor’s final-year project (TFE).
  • Where you studied: A French-speaking Belgian higher education institution has recognised your work. For the Master’s categories, a university is required; for the Bachelor’s category, a non-university institution is required.
  • When you finished: Your thesis was approved in the academic year ending in the June before the prize is awarded.
  • Topic: Any topic is acceptable, but your work must contribute to our understanding of women, gender relations and equality by applying a feminist approach and feminist methodology.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Exclusion: Permanent staff at the Université des Femmes are excluded from taking part.

How to apply

You must submit your final thesis in triplicate in hard copy and as a PDF file, together with a brief CV and a completed submission form (available on the provider’s website). The submission deadline for 2026 is 9 February. A panel comprising lecturers and researchers will then assess the submissions in two stages: first, the feminist focus and methodology; second, the academic quality.
