About this grant / loan
What you get
You can borrow up to 4,000 EUR to buy furniture and everyday household goods when you first set up your own home. This is a low-interest loan, not a grant, so you pay it back. The interest rate is fixed for the whole term and set below the market rate, with a minimum of 0.50%. You repay in up to 84 monthly instalments (7 years). You can also pay off part or all of it early by giving 10 days' written notice. The loan covers ordinary, lasting items at a normal price. Luxury and leisure goods are not covered. If you have a child after signing, you get a one-off payment per birth or adoption: 74 EUR for a 1st or 2nd child, rising to 149 EUR for a 5th or later child. The loan is offered by the Province of Liège in Belgium.
Who can apply
- Age: You are under 35 when you marry, start official cohabitation, or move in as a single person.
- Where you live: You are resident in the province of Liège or are taking up residence there.
- Nationality: You are a Belgian national or an EU citizen. If you are neither, you must have been born in Belgium or have lived there for at least 5 years, and you must also name a guarantor who will co-sign the loan.
- Income: Your monthly net income is no more than 2,500 EUR as a couple or 1,500 EUR as a single person (these are 2005 figures, which rise in line with inflation, so the current upper limits are higher). Your total monthly payments, including other liabilities, are less than 40% of your net income.
- No parallel loan: You are not currently repaying any other loan from the Province of Liège intended for young people or young households.
How to apply
You submit your application to the Province of Liège using the official forms, listing the items you wish to purchase along with an estimate of the costs. You may submit the application at the earliest once you have become engaged, moved in with a partner or moved into your own home. The deadline is 12 months after this event.
