About this scholarship
Research travel grant from Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI)
You will receive a monthly scholarship for a research stay abroad lasting 1 to 6 months, as well as your return travel expenses. The partner country abroad pays the monthly amount, the level of which therefore depends on that country and its cost of living. WBI does not set a standard fixed amount. The scholarship is intended to support in-depth specialisation and research work as part of a PhD or postdoctoral programme, often within the framework of a partnership between your university and a foreign institution. It is administered by Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI), the agency for external relations of the French-speaking Community of Belgium.
Who can apply
- Degree: You have a degree from a higher education institution funded by the French-speaking community of Belgium (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles), university or non-university. You can also apply in your final year there, as long as you hold the degree before you leave.
- Where you go: You are travelling to one of these partner countries: Bulgaria, Egypt, Estonia, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia or the Czech Republic.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they hold the required Belgian qualification.
How to apply
Please submit your application to the WBI by 1 December, using the official application form available on the WBI website. For Hungary, Lithuania and Slovenia, you must also apply to the relevant embassy or the country’s responsible funding agency. Deadlines vary by country, so please check the deadlines that apply to you. The WBI selects candidates in collaboration with the F.R.S.-FNRS and the partner embassies between February and March. You will then be informed whether you have been accepted, placed on the waiting list or rejected, and the partner country will make its final decision between April and June.
