About this scholarship

Erasmus Belgica Programme

You will receive 400 EUR per month for a study placement or work placement in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. The rate increases to 500 EUR per month if you are from a disadvantaged background, for example due to AMO status (youth support) or a recognised disadvantaged background. A stay can last between 5 days and 12 months. If you commute from home rather than moving there, the programme pays a lump sum of 100 EUR for the entire stay. There are no enrolment fees at the host university. The scholarship is administered by UCLouvain in conjunction with the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. It enables you to study or undertake training in another of Belgium’s language communities without leaving the country.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled as a student at UCLouvain.
  • Study level: You are currently in at least the second year of your Bachelor’s degree (Block 2). The only Master’s programme available is the two-year Master’s programme 120.
  • Where you go: You are studying or undertaking a work placement at a Belgian institution that has an Erasmus-Belgica agreement with UCLouvain, particularly in Flanders. Work placements at EU institutions or bodies that manage European programmes are not eligible for funding.
  • Field of study: All subjects are eligible.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at UCLouvain.
  • Language: You have at least a basic knowledge of the local language. Level ‘Zero’ is not accepted.
  • How often: You may claim this grant once per cycle of study (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD), with a maximum of 12 months of funding being awarded per cycle.

How to apply

Applications are made online via the OSIS-Mobi platform. You must submit a personal statement, a CV, academic transcripts, proof of your language proficiency and a list of three preferred destinations. The application deadline is in early February (for 2026-2027, it was 9 February 2026). A faculty committee will make a shortlist in February, and the final decision will depend on your exam results in June.
