About this scholarship

What you get

The University of Liège (ULiège) in Belgium gives non-repayable financial help to students in money trouble. There is no single fixed amount. The Student Social Service looks at your situation and can cover different costs:

  • A rent contribution, once per semester
  • 75% of a train pass
  • Money towards a computer or study materials
  • Support for compulsory study trips
  • A top-up to your Erasmus grant if you study abroad
  • A monthly allowance during exam months (December, January, May, June) if you cannot work then
  • Help with unusual medical bills your health insurance does not cover

From the 2026-2027 academic year, ULiège can also reduce your enrolment fee (up to 1,194 EUR at the full rate) or, in some cases, cover it entirely. You can also take an interest-free loan to pay the fee in instalments.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at the University of Liège.
  • Study level: You are a bachelor's or master's student.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Financial need: You are in a difficult financial situation and can prove it with documents.

How to apply

First apply to the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles study grant office (DAE). Then book an appointment with a social worker at the Student Social Service, who gives you the application form. You hand in proof of your financial situation. You can apply all year, but try to submit your file by 31 October of the current academic year.
