About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a one-off grant of 37,000 EUR to carry out research at a university in the United States for 12 months. You can take out health insurance under the group policy of the Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF). The fund is administered by the King Baudouin Foundation and, in practice, managed by the BAEF, which places Belgian researchers at American universities. The grant cannot be extended.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are Belgian.
  • Level: You are a PhD student continuing your doctoral studies, or a postdoctoral researcher. You have either obtained a degree from a Belgian university or have at least two years’ research experience.
  • Field: You work in the natural sciences, for example in chemistry, biology or earth sciences.
  • Where you go: You carry out your research at a university in the United States.
  • Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
  • Language: You speak English fluently.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the BAEF. First, you must complete an online form to verify your eligibility. You must then submit your complete application by 31 October, including a research plan, a list of publications and your academic transcripts. Shortlisted candidates will attend an interview in Brussels at the end of January. The results will be announced in mid-February.
