Herman Van Beneden Foundation grant

You will receive a one-off grant of 500 EUR to cover research costs, for example for work undertaken as part of a specialised Master’s programme or a PhD at the University of Liège. The grant covers research costs but not publication costs. The Van Beneden Foundation awards the grant and administers it through the ULiège Foundation in order to promote academic research at the University of Liège. If you apply, you will automatically be considered for the Hela grant as well, as the criteria are almost identical.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a Master’s degree which you obtained no more than 5 years prior to your application.
• What you are doing now: You are enrolled in a doctorate at the University of Liège, or you are a young researcher there.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Supervision: A professor has agreed to supervise your research, whether at the University of Liège or at an institution abroad.

How to apply

You apply through an online form by 17 October. Your file includes a motivation letter, a detailed CV, a project description of up to 5 pages, your financial needs, one agreement letter from your supervising professor and two reference letters from professors who taught you earlier.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one grant is awarded per round. The committee may also decide not to award any grants at all if the projects do not meet the quality requirements.
