About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a grant to fund a theological study trip abroad. The amount of the grant is not made public and is determined on an individual basis for each applicant. The funds come from the Hans Tausens Fond, which is administered by the Faculty of Theology at the University of Copenhagen. The grants are awarded once a year. In return, you are expected to share your impressions of church life in the places you visit.

Who can apply

  • Theology students: You are in the final stage of your Master’s degree (candidate) and have already completed your Bachelor’s degree.
  • Medical students: You may apply if you are in the final stages of your degree, but only if you are the child of a priest.
  • Priests and graduates: You can apply if you are a priest or a theology graduate who plans to seek a clerical position.
  • Study purpose: In your application, you must state a clear, precisely defined theological reason for the trip.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Not eligible: PhD students are not eligible to apply. No proof of financial need is required for travel grants.

How to apply

Students should apply using the Foundation’s application form, enclosing a one-page letter of motivation and an estimate of travel expenses. Priests and theology graduates seeking a post in church ministry should apply without using the form. The application deadline is announced each year via notices posted at the theological faculties in Copenhagen and Aarhus, as well as in the journal of the Priests’ Association.
