About this scholarship

Erik Hørslev and Wife Birgit Hørslev's Foundation research grant

You will receive funding for a pharmaceutical or medical research project. The money will be paid to the research institution where you work, not directly to you. The foundation awards a total of approximately 1.5 million DKK per year (about 200,000 EUR), which is divided amongst several researchers and projects, meaning that the amount per grant is not fixed. The grant remains tied to your institution: any equipment you purchase with it belongs to the institution, and you may not transfer the grant to another institution without the board’s consent. The Foundation was established in 1977 by Director Erik Hørslev and his wife Birgit Hørslev to promote research and further education in the fields of pharmacy and medicine, including the work of pharmacies.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are a qualified researcher, such as a postdoctoral researcher or an established academic. PhD and Master’s students are not eligible to apply.
  • Research topic: Each year, the Executive Board selects 2 to 3 topics, and your project must relate to one of them. For 2026, the topics are ‘polypharmacy’ (the safe and appropriate use of multiple medicines simultaneously, particularly in older patients) and ‘palliative care’ (treatment during the final stages of life).
  • Where you work: You work at a research organisation that will receive and use the funding.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Your CV may be written in English.

How to apply

There is one application round per year. Please upload the Foundation’s application form, your project description and your CV via their website by 31 March (midnight). Successful applicants will receive a response by the end of June. A formal awards ceremony takes place in September, at which the prize-winners present their projects.

How realistic are your chances?

More than 90% of applicants receive no funding. The foundation sets fixed yearly themes, so projects that clearly match one of them stand a better chance.
