About this grant / loan

What you get

The UPO helps you cover the running costs of your studies at the Pablo de Olavide University (UPO) in Seville, Spain. You can apply for a total of up to approximately 600 EUR across four different funding categories:

  • A refund of your tuition fees.
  • A flat-rate fee of 150 EUR for learning materials.
  • A travel allowance based on the distance travelled: 100 EUR for up to 25 km, 150 EUR for 26 to 50 km, and 250 EUR for more than 50 km. If you have a recognised disability of 65 % or more, you will receive an additional 50 % towards travel costs.
  • A housing allowance of up to 800 EUR if you are renting accommodation near the university because your parents’ home is too far away. The allowance will never exceed your actual rent.

Transport and accommodation grants cannot be combined. The university funds this from its own budget, providing 80,000 euros for the period 2025/26, to supplement the general study grant provided by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled on an official Bachelor’s degree programme (Grado) at Pablo de Olavide University.
  • Study load: You are enrolled on a full-time course worth at least 60 ECTS credits, or on a part-time course worth between 24 and 59 credits. Full-time study is required to be eligible for the housing allowance.
  • Progress: You have earned enough credits from last year: at least 50 % in engineering subjects and at least 70 % in all other subjects. For first-year students, the mark achieved in the university entrance examination is used instead.
  • Financial need: Your household income must be below specified limits, which range from around 13,900 euros for a single-person household up to around 52,850 euros for a household of eight people. Your assets must also remain below specified limits.
  • No full ministry grant: You do not yet have a full scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Education. You may still apply if you are only receiving the portion that covers your tuition fees.
  • No prior degree: You do not yet hold a higher education qualification at the same or a higher level.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the UPO’s online administration portal. For the 2025/26 round, the application window ran from 2 February to 27 March. A sub-committee of the Ministry’s Scholarship Commission reviews the applications and determines the ranking of the grant recipients.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a limited group of people. You must be studying at a specific university, meet the income thresholds and earn a sufficient number of credit points. As a result, the number of people eligible for the grant remains small. If you clearly meet these conditions and can demonstrate your financial need, your chances are good. The funding amount is set at 80,000 EUR, which is divided across four types of funding. You should therefore apply as soon as the annual application round begins.
