About this scholarship

What the Spanish general scholarship (Beca General) gives you

You will receive a grant consisting of several components, so the total amount will depend on your individual circumstances. If you are studying at a university or in higher arts education, the grant covers the official public costs for the course modules for which you are enrolling for the first time. This means the full tuition fees at a public university or the corresponding public rate at a private higher education institution. In addition, there are fixed cash payments:

  • 1,700 EUR, if your household income is below the annual threshold.
  • 2,700 EUR, if you have to move away from home to go to university.
  • 50 to 125 EUR as a bonus for outstanding academic achievement, depending on your marks.
  • A further variable amount (at least 60 EUR), calculated on the basis of your grades and your household income per person.

For non-university courses, you will instead receive a basic allowance of 300 EUR or 350 EUR for basic vocational training. You will not receive this basic allowance if you are also receiving the income supplement. The grant is awarded for one academic year. You can renew it each year, for a total of up to 4 years. It is paid by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport (Ministerio de Educación, Formación Profesional y Deportes).

Who can apply

  • Level of study: You are undertaking further education after completing compulsory schooling: a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme, higher artistic training, the Bachillerato (upper secondary education), vocational training (basic, intermediate or higher level), at official language schools, in vocational training in sport or the arts, in higher religious education, or on a university entrance course for people aged over 25. Doctoral programmes, specialisation courses and private higher education qualifications are not eligible for funding.
  • Where you study: You study in Spain, at a public or private institution.
  • Nationality: You are a Spanish national or an EU citizen. As an EU citizen, you will only receive the full scholarship if you or your family live or work in Spain on a permanent basis; otherwise, you will only receive the portion that covers tuition fees. Non-EU citizens are eligible if they are under 18 or held a residence permit for non-students in Spain as at 31 December 2025.
  • Income: Your household income is below the thresholds set out in the call for applications each year.
  • Grades: You meet the academic entry requirements for your degree programme.
  • Not for Catalonia residents: If your family’s place of residence was in Catalonia on 31 December 2025, you should submit your application to the Catalan regional government instead, rather than under this nationwide call for applications.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the Ministry’s electronic portal. You log in using your ID and a password or an electronic certificate. For the year 2026/2027, the application window ran from 7 April to 19 May 2026. You do not need to submit any documents in advance. You should only upload them when they are requested at a later stage. You should therefore check your emails and your online file regularly.
